“Trophy Art” Melissa McCaig-Welles and Rodrigo Valles
Trophy Art, an exhibit curated and produced by Melissa McCaig-Welles and Rodrigo Valles, was intended as a pop-up exhibit, to raise awareness of NYC fine artists who have been making a profound impact on the worldwide urban/fine art scene. Sublime: Harlem will continue this message and match the aesthetic allure of Trophy Art, while adding new surprises from like-minded and highly-revered NYC-based artists and musicians.
“In today’s contemporary art world, the value of art and talent has been heavily confounded by market value prices and media trends that take away from the authentic experience of appreciating art for its pure aesthetics. But underneath the complex layers of superficiality and trendy business, there is a lot of heart and soul with evocation of true craft that still lives in many closed studios and open exhibitions. One just has to venture further and open their eyes a bit wider to appreciate art that is evolving with real dedication in our contemporary world…..Trophy Art” -Art Fuse
“Trophy Art boasts an all-star roster of artists with roots in graffiti and street art, each bringing to the table a prized “trophy” piece of their own style. Acting as a sort of antithesis to large-scale art festivals and shows that serve street art, graffiti and other street-inspired works on a silver platter to consumer audiences, the show as a whole highlights the impact that each of the selected artists intends to make on the world while simultaneously shunning the hype, buzz and sales-driven spirit of the high-art sphere.” - 12 Oz Prophet
