The McCaig-Welles Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by artist Dave Tree. The exhibition will open with a reception on Saturday February 16th from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
In "Monsters, Mythos and Madness " we are introduced to a strikingly intense and colorful palette met by a world of sinister characters, evil monsters and strange creatures. A sense of humor and playing off of various types of materials are also common themes in Tree's works.
In Tree's work "Iron Maiden" we see a black and white image of a woman in a nun's habit silk screened onto a the cover pad of an ironing board.
An image of a medieval night is in full armor is painted over a brick wall In "Test My Metal".
Inspired by religious iconography, morals and ideals, Tree mentions the following about his inspiration for the exhibit:
"In a modern world, in a country founded on the teachings of the Enlightenment, we are a nation and a globe led into a world of darkness by religious fundamentalist zealots. Have we learned nothing from our past? We live in a society with such incredible advancements in science, medicine, communications and transportation yet we live in a spiritual Dark Ages.
From a Holy War that rages globally to our current president that believes God chose him, we are surrounded by ancient Mythos that creates Madness in our hearts and minds that transforms all...."
Dave Tree is committed to create art in any and all media specializing in photo, silkscreen, music, found object sculpture and propaganda. He finds inspiration every day and hopes that his art will inspire others to create art and enjoy art as a true force of nature.
