FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

McCaig-Welles Gallery is pleased to present “The Life and Death of a City,” an exhibition of paintings and works on paper by Cheryl Molnar. The Gallery is located at 129 Roebling Street, Suite B in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and is open from Tuesday through Friday, 11 am – 7pm and Saturday through Sunday 12 - 7pm. There will be a reception for the artist on Friday, January 6, from 7-10 pm.

In her recent paintings and works on paper, Cheryl Molnar captures through the use of found materials the rapidly changing Williamsburg and Greenpoint waterfront and surrounding neighborhood. Her found materials include paper— related mimeographed blueprints, engineering plans, and diagrams as well as documents from her own personal history—and cardboard collected from solitary walks that explore Brooklyn’s few remaining industrial neighborhoods. Collaging and often staining these materials with oil paint, she documents her vision of Brooklyn’s past, present and future urban landscape.

Cheryl Molnar is an artist and freelance graphic designer. She is a recent graduate of Pratt Institute’s Master of Fine Arts program and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at Rhode Island School of Design. Molnar lives and works in Brooklyn.

Cheryl Molnar's original, one of a kind books "Paper" and "10/05: The Greenpoint-Williamsburg Waterfront " will also be available at the reception.
