Based in Brooklyn, gilf! is one of NYC’s most recognized and provocative female street and activist artists. She creates bold public work and gallery work that inspire thoughtfulness, while simultaneously motivating progressive change within communities. Earlier this year, the artist garnered national media attention when she installed a colossal banner resembling police caution tape that read ‘GENTRIFICATION IN PROGRESS’  at the former graffiti mecca 5 Pointz in Queens, New York. Since receiving her bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from the University of Wisconsin Madison, her work has been reviewed in Blouin Art Info, New York Magazine, New York Daily News, Brooklyn Street Art, Gothamist, and Wooster Collective. She has exhibited in solo and group shows throughout the US and abroad including shows at Jim Kempner Fine Art in New York, Seyhoun Gallery in Tehran, Iran, and Known Gallery in Los Angeles. Through her participatory performance events, murals, uncomissioned street work, gallery installations, and curatorial projects she continues her dialog of mindful and constructive evolution.

I make art that poses questions to and present solutions for the challenges we face as a global community. Whether it be the street, a gallery, museum, or the internet it is important to have these discussions in various dimensions to produce the most thoughtful, comprehensive, and effective solutions. Through concept-specific materials I create images, objects, performances,  and installations that radiate ideas associated with social justice, environmental concerns, and constructive evolution. By challenging myself to rethink these materials I am challenging the viewers to rethink their perceived realities. This opens up a dialog for community vetted and supported change. As I work to create comprehensive progress through my art I hope others will choose to be active participants in the discussion, and the momentous change we will build together.
